Police shut down I-80 west following the crash.

A Portland Borough woman was seriously injured when the vehicle she was driving left I-80, crashed into an embankment and overturned, according to New Jersey State Police.

Lindsey Ford, 28, of the 100 block of State Street, at 1:02 a.m. was traveling along I-80 west in Knowlton Township near mile marker 6.2. Police said Ford lost control of the vehicle and it entered into a clockwise direction, traveling off the right side of the highway.

The vehicle then crashed into the grassy embankment and flipped, state police in Hope said.

Ford was taken to Morristown Medical Center for treatment. The hospital did not immediately have information on Ford's condition.

Investigators say when speaking to Ford, she initially indicated a passenger might have been in the vehicle with her. Police shut down I-80 west to conduct a search, which yielded negative results. The New Jersey Department of Transportation also assisted in shutting down the roadway.

Ford later told investigators there wasn't a passenger in the vehicle with her during the crash.

No charges have been filed yet, but Sgt. First Class Gregory Williams, a State Police spokesman, said investigators believe alcohol was a factor in the cause of the crash. A blood sample was taken from Ford.

The State Police's Crime Scene Unit, Fatal Accident Investigation Unit and Incident Management Response Unit all responded to the scene.

The Warren County Prosecutor's Office was notified of the incident.
